Custom or off the shelf

Software that fits the shop you run.

Store-bought software has to work for lots of different businesses, so you end up working around it. A custom app is built around the way your shop runs, and nobody down the road has the same one.

  • Off the shelf: Your staff learn workarounds because the software does things its own way.

Built for you: Screens laid out in the order your people already do the job.

  • Off the shelf: Your customers see the same app at every other shop in town.

Built for you: Customers open an app with your name on it.

  • Off the shelf: Paying every month for a pile of features nobody at the shop uses.

Built for you: Just the screens your people use every day.

  • Off the shelf: You ask the software company for a change and never hear back.

Built for you: When you need something changed, you call us directly.

  • Off the shelf: Your customer list sits in someone else’s system.

Built for you: The app and your customer records belong to you.

In practice

Where our apps get used.

You don’t have to know whether you need a phone app or something on a desktop. Tell us which of these sounds like your week and we’ll work out the rest.

At the counter

Where you do the same job over and over, and it has to keep going when the line is out the door.

  • Point-of-sale and checkout

Cash drawer, receipt printer, barcode scanner, all wired in.

  • Kiosks and lobby stations

Self check-in, sign-in sheets, customer queue, locked to one job.

  • Counter and service desk

Order intake, ticket creation, parts lookup.

  • Printing and labels

Receipts, labels, and shipping slips print straight from the app.

Runs on the computer at your counter, and keeps running when the internet drops.

In your customers’ hands

Where customers book or order on their own, without calling you.

  • Booking and reminders

Customers pick a time, get a reminder, reschedule themselves.

  • Loyalty and rewards

Punch cards, points, and offers that live on the customer’s phone instead of in their wallet.

  • Ordering and pickup

Orders taken ahead, with a notification when it’s ready.

  • Customer accounts

    Past purchases, saved preferences, balances.

Runs on their phone, published to the Google Play Store under your name.

Out with your team

Where the work happens away from a desk, and the paperwork waits until the end of the day.

  • Work orders in the field

Photos, signatures, mileage, captured on site.

  • Inventory and check-in

Scan barcodes, count stock, log deliveries.

  • Heavy data entry

A real keyboard and shortcuts, for the dozens of records a day.

  • Works with no signal

Everything saves locally and syncs when you’re back.

Runs on phones in the field and on a computer back at the shop. Most teams use both.

Common questions

Questions about building an app.

How do I know which kind of app I need?
You don’t have to. That’s the first thing we work out on the call. Describe the part of your day that takes too long, and who is standing there when it happens. From there it’s usually clear whether it belongs on a phone, a computer, or both.
How long does an app take to build?
Most take 6–12 weeks from our first call to something you can use. Simpler apps are done sooner, and connecting to other software adds time. You get an estimate for yours after the first call.
Why Android only? What about iPhone?
Android costs less to build for and has a simpler launch process, so it is the cheaper, faster way to get an app in front of customers. If most of your customers carry iPhones, we’ll talk that through before you commit.
Will it work with the tools I already use?
Usually yes. Booking systems, accounting software, payment processors, inventory tools. If it has a way to talk to other software, we can connect to it. We check yours on the first call.
What happens when the internet goes out?
Anything running at your counter keeps working. Sales, tickets, and check-ins save on the machine and sync once you’re back online. That is the main reason some of this work belongs on a desktop instead of a browser tab.
Who owns the app?
You do. That includes the code, the images and files, your data, and the Play Store listing, from the first day.
